Ruth Porter Hart
I am the mother of the sisters, (not all the sisters, just Michelle and April).
I started running 9 years ago on April 1st, 2004 at the age of 54, if anyone told me I would ever be a runner I would have told them they were crazy!!
It was very challenging at first, gasping for air trying to make it to one minute of running and fighting the mental challenge of being positive that I could do it. I have chosen never to forget how hard I found it when I first joined a Learn to Run program.
It always makes me grateful to remember how far I have come since that time. We never reach the finish line in learning as I am still continuing to learn new things about myself, my strengths and weaknesses and how to work on them.
Being an instructor with Sisters in Fitness Running Club helps me identify with all the new runners for their first running session and feel empathy as they struggle to reach their gaols the first few months.
Since that time I have run several Tely 10, many ½ marathons, Cape to Cabot, and for my 60th birthday Jan 2010, I ran a full marathon with my daughter Michelle at The World Walt Disney Marathon in Florida. I never would have been able to reach my goal without the direction and encouragement from being part of the Sisters in Fitness Running Club.
My goal today is to continue to run and be healthy and to pass on to new runners hopefully some of my experiences and to encourage them the best way possible.
Today, I love running because it makes me feel ageless; I am a proud baby boomer!
I am now 63 years old and I get to run with all types of people who are faster, slower, younger, older, bigger, smaller, stronger, weaker but we all learn from each other and we are all striving to get to the finish line so we can start all over again.
